Description
A dynamic yet minimal pair of iron sculptures with bronze applique in the style of Barry Flanagan's "Nijinski Hare" series. Circa late 20th to early 21st century. Per the artist, "Thematically the choice of the hare is really quite a rich and expressive sort of model... if you consider what conveys situation and meaning and feeling in a human figure, the range of expression is in fact far more limited than the device of investing an animal -- a hare especially -- with the attributes of a human being." Flannagan first created the hare sculpture in the 1970s and it has been going an ongoing motif throughout his career. There is a whimsical, dance-like quality to the design which is embedded with symbolism. The stylized, elongated figures are reminiscent of Alberto Giacometti sculptures. Similar sculptures are in the collections of the Tate, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Dimensions: 17.25"h x 4.5"w x 9.75"d (per sculpture). In very good condition. Provenance: From a private estate. The sculptures are unsigned, and we do not have supplementary authentication paperwork. With the lack of provenance or documentation provided we cannot confirm authenticity, which is reflected in the reserve pricing.
