Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Apache culture, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A wood and cloth cradleboard made in the traditional Apache style with a bentwood frame, wood slats, and a sunshade attached to the curved frame. Cotton cloth and straps cover the frame for securing the swaddled baby. Grandmothers or other older women relatives would make cradleboards to keep the baby safe and easily moved or laid nearby where their mothers were working. This piece is likely from the San Carlos reservation where cradleboards and other basketry were made as ornamental and full-sized display pieces. Size: 28" L x 11" W x 11.5" H (71.1 cm x 27.9 cm x 29.2 cm)

Condition
Small tears to top of sunshade cloth. Some discoloration to cloth and wood from age, but otherwise excellent vintage condition.
