Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden finial for a staff or an architectural element presenting an abstract anthropomorphic face. The elaborate visage is decorated with thick pigment in blue, white, red, and yellow hues to create an eye-catching presentation. Size: 1.75" L x 1.4" W x 5.75" H (4.4 cm x 3.6 cm x 14.6 cm); 7.6" H (19.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Abrasions and small nicks, with chipping and light fading to pigment on face, and some earthen deposits in scattered areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment across face. Drilled through bottom for mounting and display purposes.
