Description
(1815-1862) Union Brigadier General, worked on Grant’s Canal, killed in action at Baton Rouge. Very rare partly-printed D.S. 1p. 4to., Roanoke Island, Mar. 30, 1862, a discharge of Captain John W. Putnam, Company ‘P’ 6th Regiment N.H. Vols. due to being: ‘…taken sick…at Camp Hamilton…with disease of the lungs…’. On verso, Williams endorses the request less than four months before his death: ‘Approved & respectfully referred to Dept. Hd. Qrs. T. Wiliams Brigd Genl’. Folds, a couple of minor spots, overall very good condition.
