Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An impressive and elegant steel and ivory sword with the matching silver and wood sheath known as a kris panjang which literally translates to "long kris." Those familiar with traditional kris swords will recognize the similar elements; the blade is straight and slightly longer than a kris, with a "wootz" or "watered steel" blade that has a lovely rippling pamor pattern that extends down only half of the blade - which is most unusual. A 66% silver spacer with orchid flowers encircles the lower part of the ivory handle which curves outward. The sheath is composed of two carved wooden components - the flared guard protector and the narrow blade house. The housing is covered by a 46% silver jacket with a stunning chased floral pattern.
