Red boards lettered in white, pictorial label to covers.At least one appears to be the first U.S. edition, however the endpapers are a mirror image (except for the text) as the example given in Quinby, plate I. The second likely an early issue thereafter. In one, the Schleuter imprint is at bottom right of the final leaf verso, final word 'mice' with last line of text. The second copy has imprint centered on the page, p.85 with 'mice' on its own final line. Other slight typographic differences. Quinby 4a.

Moderate wear to boards, some dampstaining; the presumed earlier issue with marginal dampstains to leaves and mild foxing, other volume generally clean inside; very good to near fine.
