Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A set of 5 mold-formed pottery oil lamps. The largest lamp is made from redware and boasts a soldier running towards the left while a stylized zoomorphic creature lunges towards his neck. The remaining 4 lamps bear circular bodies, 3 with pierced handles, and 1 with raised stippling around the shoulder. Size of largest: 4.53" L x 3.49" W x 1.86" H (11.5 cm x 8.9 cm x 4.7 cm)

Provenance: private Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA collection, by descent, acquired in Tunisia before 1969

Condition
One lamp with loss to top of spout, and one lamp with loss to top of handle; remaining 3 lamps are intact. Each lamp with abrasions and nicks commensurate with age, with softening to finer details where applicable, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in nice condition.
