Description
Three turn of the century photographs of the Oglala Sioux tribe in South Dakota. Taken for "General G. J. Pavey" of Washington, D.C., each with hand-written inscriptions on reverse. Includes a photo of Chief Bull Head and with his grandson annotated and signed "Bull Head / his X mark", one of "Tanka-Mani, wife of Chief Bull Head" and another of the "Ogallala (fighting Sioux) band...with the Chief of the Indian Police and a war messenger" with further annotations nothing that the "Indian with the flag on his right is old "Red Cloud" the head chief of all the Sioux tribe". Minor toning, slight foxing and some surface marks overall, not examined out of frames. Images 7 x 9" high (horizontal and vertical), in double sided wood frames, 16 1/4 x 18 1/4" high overall.
