Depicts an older Black woman wearing an apron and seated at a kitchen table with a basket of vegetables. Signed "Martha R. Upshur" lower left and dated "5-40" lower right, retains paper exhibition label from "Academy Gallery / Richmond, VA" verso. Slight craquelure, minor surface grunge. Image 25 3/4 x 31 1/2" high, in a distressed wood frame with damage to bottom left corner, 33 x 39 1/4" high overall.
