Description
This 1752 copperplate engraving by Jacques Nicolas Bellin depicts Kyoto, also known as Meaco, the old capital of Japan during the Tokugawa shogunate era. The city was rebuilt after its destruction during the Onin War of 1467-1477, and its rectangular blocks grid system was built in the late 16th century. Published in Paris as part of Anton Francois Provost’s ‘Histoire General des Voyages, ou Nouvelle Collection de Toutes les Relations de Voyages’, this map measures 15” x 10” and is in excellent condition. Authenticity is guaranteed.
