Rare Aztec Roundel Section - Impressed Abstract Designs
Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Aztec, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A large mold-made terracotta roundel section with a flat base, a recessed center, and a raised rim. The interior of the roundel displays a plethora of quixotic impressed designs, most of which are indiscernible and wholly abstract without the missing fragment. The circular, linear, and curvilinear designs, however, are as beautiful and well-designed as they are nebulous. Size: 4.25" Diameter (10.8 cm)

Provenance: private Tennessee, USA collection, purchased from Artemis Gallery, December 25, 2017, lot 264; ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
