Description
LOCKPORT, NEW YORK ATTRIBUTED MEDICINE BOTTLE, medium green, rectangular with flat panels and beveled corners, unembossed, applied tapered mouth, rectangular-shaped iron pontil scar on base with thick grey residue, extremely whittled and bubbly glass texture. Probably Lockport Glass Works. Circa 1860. 9 1/2" H.
Catalogue Note: The shape and color are very similar to G. W. Merchant bottles blown at Lockport, although this example is an impressive larger size.
Provenance:
Collection of the late Al and Billy Steidel, Alexandria, VA.
Condition
Nearly undamaged, with just a very small nick along one panel edge and a 1/3" W rainbow bruise at the upper extremity of one shoulder corner. A large discolored potstone/inclusion in one of the side panels, with no radiation whatsoever, as made.
