OCTAGONAL CATHEDRAL INK BOTTLE / MEDICINE JAR, aqua, octagonal form with domed shoulder and round neck above paneled body and flared-out paneled base, five of the body panels having embossed cathedral window design, wide mouth with thin flared lip, blowpipe pontil scar. Circa 1850. 3 1/4" H, 2" D across corners.

Catalogue Note:Â Historically listed and grouped with inkwells, but the wide mouth suggests it may perhaps have been intended as an ointment/salve jar which saw generic utility use from time to time, including for ink, according to labeled examples.
