Item Details

Description

American. Taunton, Mass. 1870s. Salt-glazed stoneware. A one-gallon crock featuring a whimsical cobalt blue floral decoration by F.T. Wright & Son. The pottery in Taunton, Massachusetts (approximately 60 kms south of Boston), was in business from 1866 to the 1870s. The potter's mark is rather weak but for the most part legible. Stamped, "F.T. Wright & Son / ..aunton M...". 7.5" x 8.25". From the Collection of Steve Blevins and Sonja Morawetz.

Condition

Straw marks can be seen in the glaze running horizontally to the right of the decoration and there are several hairline cracks extending from the rim and two in one handle. The through cracks have been stabilized with epoxy.
