Western Europe, probably Italy or France, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A fine pair of gold-painted wood columns, both fluted and skillfully carved to exemplify the Neoclassical decorative aesthetic. Each is crowned by a Corinthian capital with fluting down the shaft and a relief cherub motif on the drum. These examples would have served as opulent ornaments in a Neoclassical household or building. Just think of all the splendor they will exude in your own home! Size of largest: 6.1" W x 26" H (15.5 cm x 66 cm)
Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982

Some areas of chipping and old inactive insect holes, as well as expected nicks and abrasions commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact with a very nice presentation and good remaining pigments.
