Description
Wright Flyer Kitty Hawk Flown Fabric Swatch CAG Encapsulated.
Fabric swatch, .625" x .75". Taken from the Wright Flyer, the first airplane which made its debut flight at Kitty Hawk on December 17, 1903, famously giving wings to mankind. Encapsulated by CAG, measuring 2.375'' x 3.375''.
Orville Wright refurbished the Wright Flyer in preparation for loaning it to the Science Museum in London, where it stayed until 1948. Prior to that, the flyer was refurbished in 1916 and we feel that during this refurbishment our swatch was retained for historical purposes by Orville Wright. Harvey D. Geyer was a close friend, associate and employee of the Wright Brothers from 1910 till the death of Orville Wright in 1948 at which point Geyer was appointed the technical advisor to the Wright Estate, likely where he obtained this section of fabric.
Provenance:
1. Wright Estate
2. Harvey D. Geyer
3. The Custer Specialty Company
