Benjamin Moore Norman was a 19th-century writer who was best remembered for his voyage and subsequent book of the Yucatan. In his book “Rambles in Yucatan”, Norman describes his discoveries from spending three months in the Yucatan Peninsula. In it he writes of:
Interactions with indigenous wise men
Learning and understanding tribal Mayan languages
Witnessing miracles, tribal dances and ceremonies
Visiting and illustrating Mayan ruins
Remarks on the political and social status of Yucatan
This work proved to be highly popular following its first release, so much so that Norman was pushed to make numerous editions. This 1843 edition is considered quite valuable itself – a rare and important history of the Maya people and the Yucatan Peninsula.
