A vintage French cast bronze sculpture, study of a face, after the original model, Monumental Head of Pierre de Wissant, by Auguste Rodin, French, 1840 to 1917. Signed, A. Rodin, on the sculpture. Modeled about 1884, enlarged about 1909. Cast in 1980. Mounted on a cube shaped black marble stand. Francois Auguste Rene Rodin was a French sculptor generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. He was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman like approach to his work. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay.
