A vintage French cast bronze sculpture after the original model, Small head of the Man with the broken nose, a study for the Gates of Hell, c. 1880s, by Auguste Rodin, French, 1840 to 1917. Cast in the 1920s to 1930s. Signed, A. Rodin, on the sculpture. Mounted on a cube shaped black marble stand. Francois Auguste Rene Rodin was a French sculptor generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. He was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman like approach to his work. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay.
