Ancient Central Asia, southern Azerbaijan and northern Iran, Ardabil region, Meshginshahr, Amlash / Marlik culture, Bronze Age to Iron Age, ca. 3000 to 600 BCE. An impressive blackware dish, the exterior is stone-burnished with surface motifs radiating from the base - the patterns also rendered by the burnishing technique. The piece is thick with a small rim tab drilled with a hole - perhaps for a cord to hang / store this dish when not in use or for threading additional ornamentation.
