Description
MId century modern art: O/B Still life with cup and fruit on table with gold lettered background, circa 1950's. Not signed but possibly by Arthur Sudler. Very good condition and housed within its original custom made wooden frame. Sight size 8 1/8" x 10 1/4" and total frame size 15 3/4" x 17 3/4". Marked on back "Varnished April 25, '58". Mr. Sudler started his career as an artist by attending the Maryland Institute Of Fine Arts and was an associate of John Sloan and Robert Henri, but during the Depression, he turned his attention to graphic arts working for various advertising agencies, eventually starting his own business which included advertising for the medical profession among other businesses. He won a contract with a TV station and was the creator of the famous NBC Peacock. We was inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
