Description
Rare Armenian ceramic plate, hand painted in a glazed clay medium, decorated with a Gazelle and floral patterns. Attributed to the artisan workshop of Balian Karakashian at the Armenian Pottery Workshop in Jerusalem, Palestine. Circa. 1920s. The Armenian Pottery Workshop was founded in Jerusalem in 1919, at the end of the First World War, when the British invited Iznik master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem. Size: D33 cms x H8 cms( 13 ins x 3 ins ). This LOT is part of a family heirloom collection of Dr Hassan Y K Ghaly in Saudi Arabia and the UK.
