Provenance: Cotton 1830's / 1840's stars quilt, all hand pieced and hand quilted, with a double sawtooth border and very early fabrics, including some brilliant blues. The hand quilting is superb, with close straight line, pinwheel, and feathered designs quilted throughout at an even 8-10 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched, rolled binding are white and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
