Hess Fine Auctions is pleased to offer this gorgeous impressionistic handling on a forest and lake landscape by noted listed New York / Delaware artist, Leander Leitner (1873 - ): known for his still life’s, landscapes and illustrations.
Leitner was a leading member of the Arden (Delaware) Artist Group with his bio in “Artists of Ohio” and numerous other publications. He also wrote poetry and illustrated poetry books and magazines, as well as a brochure on the history and migration of the Lene-Lenape Indians. His interest in Native America Tribes and painting of their legends led to his becoming an adopted member of the American Indian Association with the name of Running Beaver, or O-Mis-Tai-po-kah, in the language of the Blackfeet tribe.
Leitner received his early schooling in music and art in Ohio and Florida where his family later lived then later studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and Adelphy College where he was a member of the executive committee of the College Art Club and the Art Students League in New York.

Impastoed oils on canvas laid on board measures approximately 14” high x 10 1/4” wide (rear) within a bronzed wood frame approximately 17” high x 13” wide x 1 3/4” deep.
