Description
**Originally Listed At $125**
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. A pair of pottery jars with textured surfaces that seem to have been formed by rolling stamps over unfired clay. The larger vessel is bulbous and flares out from a narrowed neck to a wide rim. The other has no neck or rim, but does have an applied band of clay around the shoulder that looks like a piece of rope. Size of largest: 6.5" W x 6" H (16.5 cm x 15.2 cm)
Ban Chiang, occupied for thousands of years, was a site inhabited by rice farmers who were skilled in bronze and ceramic production. A low mounded cemetery, when excavated, showed that they buried their dead with an extensive collection of grave goods: bronze axes, jewelry, iron tools, animal and human figurines, as well as pottery vessels like this one.
Provenance: private Rochester, Michigan, USA collection; ex-private Minesota collection, USA
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
