Salvador Dali created 100 illustrations for a commemorative edition of The Divine Comedy. Dali's hyperrealistic, bizarre, and nightmarish imagery seemed like the perfect pairing to Dante's visions of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. Dali worked with a French publisher to have 100 wood engravings made after his own watercolors, which were completed and after 3 years and published in 1963. The artworks are authentic however, the signature and numbering are unverified but appear consistent with other examples. This collection was sourced from a single significant collectors estate in France. The references include Field p. 189–200 / Michlerand Lopsinger 1039 to 1138.
