Description
Original Cabinet Cards. Great set of Chief Stumbling Bear and his family. Stumbling Bear became an influential war chief by leading raids against the Sac and Fox, Pawnee, and Navajo and white settlers in his youth. In November 1864 at the Battle of Adobe Walls, Chief Stumbling Bear fought U.S. forces led by Kit Carson. He was a hero to his people and wore his daughter's shawl for good luck. Some pencil inscriptions on back, Stumbling Bear and his Children, _____Camp(rest of inscription is hard to make out), other hard to read inscriptions. Came out of Historic Elisha Camp Home in Sackets Harbor, NY.
Rare to find a set of photographs of a famous Indian Chief and his family with an outdoor camping tepee scene.
