Description
This antique map, created by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780, depicts Southern Africa, including Madagascar, with an insert focusing on the Cape Town area. The map is part of "Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens," an important work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot. Due to the controversial nature of the topics discussed in the work, such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary political and social issues, it was banned in France and subsequently published in Geneva, Switzerland. Crafted through copperplate engraving, this map is presented in overall very good condition, with authenticity guaranteed. It measures 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".
