Large Elephant Ivory Tusk, 20th c., the end with a metal cap, L.- Tip to Tip- 74 1/2 in., Outside Curve- 91 in., wt.- 77 lbs. Provenance: Property of a Birmingham, AL family. Tusk acquired in early the 1940’s and by descent to present consignor.”
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Several black scuff marks near the point end of the tusk. Approximately 3” black mark on the ivory near the metal cap end of the tusk. Slight indentation of about 2” x 1” with a crack down the center near the metal cap end of the tusk. Dark striations in the ivory running vertically along the length of the tusk near the tip end. An impressive example.
