Description
There were many versions of this cigar lighter that were prolific in the 1880s to 1900 range for light cigars. There are variations to the clawfoot base and face of the devil and mythological creature it represents, where it can be seen elsewhere in this auction. It is all cast bronze construction. There is a lid in the head where cotton would be placed, filled kerosene and wick extending from his mouth would be lit, easily picked up by the base to light a cigar. This is an excellent example of a very gothic cigar lighters from the late 19th century. CONDITION: It has great patina to the aged bronze casting. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs. It includes the original lid for the kerosene reservoir, and a fantastic overall look. Condition: (Very Good) Dimensions: 10"
