Description
Made in France in the 1950 this silkscreen tapestry reflect the democratic desire of that time to produce affordable art . Neo fantastic and influence by the cubist movement Jean Lurcat tapestry use the vocabulary of natural symbol like the sun , animal and musical instrument , mixing decorative subject with mythological scene . Jean Lurcat was a great master of Aubusson tapestry, which has produced over four hundred original tapestries in his lifetime , his fantastic inspiration revived an almost religious experience of nature using traditional medium like tapestry which enabled him to produce limited batch production to enhance everyday people surrounding. Corot was a printing and editing company , going back to the 19th century , one of their specially was to create limited edition in cooperation with the artist .This tapestry signed " le tapageur" ( the screamer ) being a roster who can be noisy in the morning , number # 250 signed
Jean Lurcat (1892-1966) studied at the École de Nancy under Victor Prouvé, the father of Jean Prouvé. In 1912 Lurcat moved to Paris where he studied at the Académie Colarossi to specialize in painting and printing techniques.
In 1917 he realized his first tapestries, which were executed in embroidery. Fascinated by the medium, Lurcat sought ways to produce tapestries in other techniques. In 1933 his first woven tapestry was manufactured in Aubusson. Deeply impressed by the huge 14th century ‘Apocalyps’ tapestry of Angers, Lurcat further developed his production techniques after 1937. By making designs on board and numbering the patches he enabled limited batch production. Lurcat’s style is influenced by both Symbolism and Surrealism.
Size 67 x 43 including border, back with lining , it was mounted on a wood frame so it show the marking from the nail , it could be relined or just stay that way with a rod on top. .
