Lou Diamond Phillips Played and Signed "La Bamba" Fender Stratocaster 1957 Reissue Guitar W/LOA From Warner Bros, Promotional Material, Case, Photos and More - This Fender Stratocaster 1957 Reissue electric guitar was played by Lou Diamond Phillips, who is famous for his portrayal of the Chicano rock star, Ritchie Valens, in the 1987 biographical film "La Bamba". The guitar is signed by Lou Diamond Phillips, who also hand wrote "La Bamba" at the top. The guitar comes with a letter of provenance from Warner Brothers, and a letter of provenance from a collector who won the guitar from Warner Brothers in a contest after the film was released. The letter states in part, "I was contacted by phone by a representative of Warner Brothers sometime in 1988 that I was the winner. I was told that this was the one and only 'Official La Bamba' Guitar." The lot also includes a press package for the film that includes (10) studio issued photos, 8"x10" photo of Lou Diamond Phillips from the film, heavy duty Fender hard case with keys, guitar strap, cord, La Bamba soundtrack on cassette, and Fender paperwork. Note: when looking up the serial number on the Fender website, the serial number dates 1997. We contacted a Fender expert who expressed that the best way to date the guitar is by taking off the neck and looking at the handwritten date inside.
