Description
America, 19th century. A letter to Peter Rudolph Neff signed by Jacob Staats Burnet, the great grandson of the great Colonial Governor William Burnet (1687-1729).

William was born in Cincinnati, OH on 19 Aug 1837 and died in Watch Hill, RI on 15 Jul 1910. Yale graduate 1857. Cincinnati Law School graduate. Alpha Delta Phi. Attorney in Cincinnati, OH and member of the Bar 1859. Married Annie E. Stubbs on 18 Jun 1872.

Peter Rudolph Neff (1832-1912) was an important member of the “Society of Religious Inquiry,” or as later changed and is commonly known today, the YMCA. During the Civil War, he was appointed as secretary of the Military Committee of Hamilton County, Ohio. He co-founded the Cincinnati College of Music in 1878, which he became the president of after the death of Colonel George W. Nichols in 1885.
