Autographed Ernest Hemingway handwritten letter to producer Jerry Wald at 20th Century Fox Studios. Letter written in the author's hand: Dear Mr. Wald; I am still not in a position to make Across the River & Into the Trees into a motion picture but thank you very much for your continued interest. Yours Very Truly, Ernest Hemingway. Framed and glazed. Dated 1959. From the estate of Jerry and Connie Wald. 3.5lbs Wald produced the movie The Breaking Point (1950), the second film adaptation of the 1937 Ernest Hemingway novel 'To Have and Have Not.' Wald and A. E. Hotchner approached Hemingway seeking the rights to either Across the River and Into the Trees or the Nick Adams stories. Hemingway did not want to sell rights to his novel and was only keen on selling one Nick Adams story - made into the 1961 movie, 'Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man.' Wald died just before the movie's release.
