Description
China, circa 1850-1949. Finely carved in openwork with two confronted fish, their dorsal fins creating the outer rim of the pendant and their scales finely incised, each issuing a lingzhi sprig from its mouth. The semi-translucent jadeite is of a fine apple-green tone with icy inclusions.
Provenance: From a private estate in Vienna, Austria.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few tiny chips to edges, few small natural fissures.
Weight: 64.7 g
Dimensions: Diameter 5.4 cm
The motif of the twin fish is symbolic for a happy marriage. The connection comes from the thousands of eggs which fish lay, emblematic of fecundity.
