Description
Finely cast, a set of two tattoo needles with slender shafts and topped by flat-disk finials with raised rings along the handles, bothe from Indonesia, circa 14th century. Furthermore, a gilt-bronze tattoo needle tapering to a narrow point, the handle cast with recessed rings enclosing a herringbone pattern and a bud finial, and another needle gilt and cast with a slender seated figure as the handle above two raised rings terminating into the tapering shaft, both from Myanmar, circa 19th century. Provenance: From an old private collection in Bavaria, Germany, assembled since the 1960s.
Condition: Overall good condition with wear, casting flaws, dents, rubbing, small nicks, and minor losses. One with remnants of gilt. The two largest needles have a rich, naturally grown patina with vibrant malachite and cuprite encrustations.
