Description
Cracked ceramic sculpture - L. Francois
France - 1930 - Ceramic
Very beautiful white-beige cracked ceramic.
Made by Francois Levallois, ceramicist active during the art deco period.
Francois Levallois (1882-1965) was a ceramicist trained in Sevres. He bought the St. Radegonde factory in Touraine from Le Printemps store in 1939.
Appearing in the 1920s, cracks (crazed) are intentional and obtained thanks to a thermal shock, dipping pieces in cold water right out of the oven.
