Description
An antique Chinese, late Qing Dynasty, watercolor painting on paper scroll depicting a Civil Mandarin ancestor, a portrait of the Empress seated on a throne and dressed in a Royal robe and an elaborate headdress. The robe is adorned with an image of a Phoenix bird surrounded by clouds, scrollwork, and traditional Greek ornaments. The background features an image of a panel inscribed with Calligraphy, and a vase with sakura flowers. Unsigned. Circa: late 19th century. These paintings traditionally come from Shanxi province which was home to many of the wealthy merchant families associated with the imperial court during the Qing dynasty.
