Two painting are Attrib. to Edward Brodney (American, 1910-2002). Edward Brodney, an artist assigned by the Army to paint idyllic pictures showing World War II soldiers praying, eating andplaying baseball -- anything but being blown apart by bombs -- died on Aug. 3 at his home in Lake Worth, Fla. He was 92. 1) Oil on canvas. Soldiers loading mortars in jungle. Image 16 inches x 20 inches. Frame 21 x 17 1/2 inches. Good condition.Not signed. 2) Oil on masonite board. Identified on back as unloading a L.S.T. at South Pacific painted by Mr Ed Brodney. Image 10 inches x 8 inches. Not framed. EDWARD BRODNEY, (American, 1910-2002) was an American artist, particularlynoted for his drawings and paintings of World War II. He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of an immigrant fisherman. One of seven children. In 1936, Brodney won a competition by the Federal Works ProgressAdministration to paint a mural in the Massachusetts State House. He also painted a mural in the Newton, MA State House, and a second later in the Massachusetts State House.
