German cursive (Kurrentschrift), with musical notation. 21x18 cm (8¼x7"), stiff paper wrappers.Manuscript adaptation of Leopold Mozart's (1719-1787) Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule (A Treatise on the Fundamental Principles of Violin Playing). The text includes a short history of the violin and related instruments, exercises, and today is studied for its description of 18th century technique and performance style. Leopold Mozart was the father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; though a composer in his own right, Leopold is best known as an instructor, including to his son. Owner inscription, possibly in the same hand, dated 1800 to title page.
