Description
Offered here for your consideration is a very rare Navajo Sun's House Screen used for the Shooting Way chant. Constructed of willow rods and painted in four broad color bands, this Sun's House screen has been used by the Navajo in the Male Shootingway healing chant. At the top, this screen has four Navajo deities with cloud symbols above them. In the four spaces at the bottom, the same deities peer out. Replete with sacred symbolism - guardian snakes, birds, lightning sticks, etc - this is a once in a life time opportunity to purchase a ceremonial item of such rarity. It comes with much provenance (and out of respect, it was first offered to the Navajo before being put up for sale here). Bid now and make this wonderful ethnographic treasure yours!
Note: The seller provides information about the original Navajo Medicine Man who had this screen to the buyer (provenance documents included). There is also an extremely rare photo of a similar screen (taken with permission by the seller, who was invited to view the ceremony in person). This show a rare view of how it is used in the ceremonial. That picture will be provided to the winning bidder if, and only if, that winning bidder signs and returns a release agreeing not to publish it anywhere, a copy of which is included in the pictures with this lot.

PROVENANCE: Richard Corrow Collection.
MAKER: Unknown Navajo.
APPROX AGE: Vintage (meaning somewhere between 1930s to 1970s).
SIZE: Measures approximately 70 inches wide x 69 1/2 inches tall.
CONDITION: Average to good for its age, normal wear and minor imperfections expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition.
