The Toraja people of central Sulawesi value as sacred the cloths called mawa, which are stored as family treasures and brought out when needed to sanctify important rituals. This is a rare 19th century example, hand woven and hand painted. The textile has been Museum Mounted and professionally sewn to a dark brown background and stretched professionally. Custom mounted and measures 86 x 34 inches. Shipping this museum mounted textile may prove challenging.
