Carved and painted wood model of a sailing barque set in shadowbox frame with painted sky behind, gilt gesso frame. Label to verso reads: "Made by Captain John C. Weeks, Provincetown, Mass. (circa 1912)" Captain Weeks was a whaler in his youth and later in life was renown for his model ships, one of which was in the collection of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Losses to gesso frame. Approx. 28" x 18" x 5 1/2". Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
