circa 1840s, watercolor on , unsigned, the first of a sailor attired in black coat and stock, wearing a gold anchor pin and locket suspended from a long neckchain, on a navy blue ground, presented behind glass in a giltwood frame (frame 7 1/2 x 7 1/4 in., painting 3 x 2 3/8 in.); the second of a blue-eyed gentleman with black coat and black stock, wearing a jeweled pin, against a mauve ground, presented behind glass in an ebonized frame (painting 3 3/8 x 2 1/4 in., frame 4 1/2 x 5 3/4 in.).
