Testo su due colonne in caratteri gotici con testo inquadrato dal commento al centro delle due colonne. 9 incisioni xil. nel testo. Nota di possesso manoscritta al frontespizio. Strappo a c. CCXIX con minimo interesse del testo. Diffusa velatura d’umidità. Pregevole edizione dell'opera dello storico latino con testo inquadrato dal commento di Bade Josse (1462-1535), Chalcondylas Theophilus (sec. XV-XVI) e Oliviero d'Arzignano (sec. XV), curatori dell’opera i cui nomi appaiono nel colophon. Si tratta di una raccolta di aneddoti di carattere moraleggiante in nove libri. Opera erudita di carattere divulgativo, raccoglieva fatti e aneddoti ripresi da fonti diverse tra le quali Cicerone, Tito Livio, Varrone e, fra i greci, Erodoto e Senofonte.Sander 7458; Essling 217; BM STC 708. Manca all'Adams e al Dibdin.

Hundreds of historiated or decorated initials on a black background of various sizes. Text on two columns in Gothic type with text framed by the comment in the center of the two columns. 9 woodcuts within text. Handwritten ownership note on title page. Tear on leaf CCXIX with minimal text interest. Spread stain of humidity.
Valuable edition of the work of the Latin historian with text framed by the commentary of Bade Josse (1462-1535), Chalcondylas Theophilus (15th-16th century) and Oliviero d'Arzignano (15th century), editors of the work whose names appear in the colophon. It is a collection of moralizing anecdotes in nine books. An erudite work of a popular nature, it collected facts and anecdotes taken from different sources including Cicero, Livy, Varro and, among the Greeks, Herodotus and Xenophon.
