Il più antico trattato di acrobazia e uno dei più bei libri figurati francesi del XVI secolo. Le 87 figure, a piena e mezza pagina, raffigurano esercizi ginnici e spettacolari prestazioni circensi. La grande xilografia ripiegata fuori testo, dopo carta 142, mostra un acrobata che salta, con un volteggio in tre fasi, attraverso dieci cerchi tenuti da dieci uomini. Of this work Pierre Bost writes: Ces trois dialogues sont accompagnés d' images très précises, comme géométriques...” Brunet: “Ouvrage assez rare.” Il trattato, scritto con talento e lirismo, si compone di tre dialoghi: il primo esamina gli esercizi che si praticavano nell’antichità, l’arte di saltare e l’importanza della danza; il secondo descrive in modo approfondito i movimenti acrobatici ed è accompagnato da un gran numero di xilografie che mostrano acrobati addestrati che svolgono salti, capriole, verticali, volteggi, e illustrano le tecniche di decollo e atterraggio; il terzo insegna come utilizzare gli esercizi per mantenere il corpo agile, vigoroso e sano. Very rare first edition. The oldest treatise on acrobatics and one of the most beautiful French illustrated books of the 16th century. The 87 full- and half-page figures depict gymnastic exercises and spectacular circus performances. The large plate, after page 142, shows an acrobat jumping, with a vault in three phases, through ten hoops held by ten men.
