In totale 46 tavole anatomiche a piena pagina incise in rame. Iscrizioni manoscritte sul margine inferiore e sul verso del Frontespizio, parzialmente cancellate. Tracce d’uso alla legatura con lieve mancanza alla pergamena dell'angolo posteriore, arrossamenti e tracce di gora, piccolo foro alla Tabula I che non lede l’immagine, trascurabile restauro al margine superiore della carta Z.Rara e celebre edizione figurata con le incisioni di Nicolas Beatrizet. Si tratta della seconda edizione italiana, ma la prima a contenere le quattro tavole relative ai muscoli aggiunte tra le carte 82-83. Molto suggestivo il Frontespizio architettonico, con il titolo sorretto da due scheletri e tre vignette con dissezioni anatomiche alla base. Valverde, che fu uno dei più grandi anatomisti del XVI secolo, il quale divulgò l’anatomia di Galeno e Vesalio. Le suggestive incisioni di Nicolas Beatrizet su disegno di Gaspar Becera, di gusto vesaliano divennero lo standard per opere anatomiche per oltre un secolo. Alcune tavole recano le iniziali NB. Hamusco, ca 1525-ca 1588, fu allievo di Realdo Colombo a Padova. Nonostante sia stato spesso tacciato di aver plagiato Vesalio, l’opera di Hamusco se ne differenzia invece in modo significativo nel testo e nelle illustrazioni; inserisce per la prima volta il resoconto di Colombo sulla circolazione polmonare e 15 nuove illustrazioni non derivanti da Vesalio vengono inserite nel libro, dove peraltro anche le tavole vesaliane sono ritoccate. Engraved titlepage within an illustrated architectural frame, portrait of the author on a2v paper, 42 full-page plates in the text, 4 plates out of text between pages 82 and 83. In total 46 full-page anatomical plates engraved on copper. Handwritten inscriptions on the lower margin and on the verso of the title page, partially erased. Traces of wear on the binding with slight damage to the parchment of the rear corner, brownings and traces of dampstain, small hole on Tabula I which does not affect the image, negligible restoration on the upper margin of leaf Z.
Rare and famous illustrated edition with engravings by Nicolas Beatrizet. This is the second Italian edition, but the first to contain the four plates relating to the muscles added between pages 82-83. The architectural titlepage is very suggestive, with the title supported by two skeletons and three vignettes with anatomical dissections at the base. Valverde, who was one of the greatest anatomists of the 16th century, who popularized the anatomy of Galen and Vesalius. The evocative engravings by Nicolas Beatrizet based on a design by Gaspar Becera, in Vesalian style, became the standard for anatomical works for over a century. Some plates bear the initials NB. Hamusco, ca 1525-ca 1588, was a pupil of Realdo Colombo in Padua. Although he has often been accused of having plagiarized Vesalius, Hamusco's work differs significantly from him in the text and illustrations; he included Columbus's account of pulmonary circulation for the first time and 15 new illustrations not deriving from Vesalius were inserted into the book, where, moreover, the Vesalian plates were also retouched.
