The Catholic Encyclopedia scrive: “This work, composed with great accuracy, shows best the soundness of judgement, the common sense, and the clearness of mind which distinguishes Lessius. The chapters on interest and other commercial subjects are epoch-making in the treatment of those difficult questions; Lessius was especially consulted by the merchants of Antwerp on matters of justice”. Gordon: “Combining a full command of earlier scholastic authorities with a hitherto unprecedented grasp of market phenomena, Lessius provided fresh insights that challenged traditional economic doctrine in authoritative fashion. Lessius is, certainly, the foremost continuator of the Spanish school of economic thought. Further, he has claims for consideration as a major contributor to the development of economic analysis…”

First Italian edition of the most important work of the Jesuit Leonard de Leys, 1554-1623, who taught philosophy and theology at Douay and Louvain and was at the center of bitter doctrinal disputes.
This work of moral theology is "one of the oldest treaties that investigates ethics of the economy", and it is especially notable for its analysis of the commercial practice. The work, light giuspolitico system, became a reference point for those they referred to this economic-political doctrine: the views of Lessius on the morality of economic transactions exercised a considerable influence on the thinking of statesmen and also of high religious offices.
