Description
A Central African Congo hand carved wood sculpted headrest, from the Luba people or Baluba, the region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The headrest is made in the shape of an animal, and decorated with gold tone metal accents. The headrest serves as a pillow that is both cool and comfortable in a tropical climate. It also protects elaborate hairstyles by raising the head above the beds surface. In addition to the great personal attachment that Luba people developed for their headrests, these were also seen as the seat of dreams. Luba consider dreams to be prophetic and communicate messages from the other world. Antique Central African Masks, Figures, Figurines, Statues, Ethnic And Tribal Art Collectibles.
