Harley-Davidson was founded in 1903 by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson, becoming one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression along with its historical rival, Indian Motorcycles, whom they would soon pull ahead of and dominate motorcycle racing after 1914.
